Seena E. Singer, of Amherst, a retired school library media specialist, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a short illness. She was 94.
Born Seena Sultanik in Buffalo, the daughter of a furrier, she was a 1941 graduate of Bennett High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University at Buffalo in 1945. She completed her master’s degree in library science at UB in 1969.
She was a library media specialist from 1969 to 1985 at Buffalo Schools 39 and 84, working with children with special needs.
Mrs. Singer was a longtime member of Temple Beth Zion and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Bridgewater Golf and Country Club for 34 years, where she was active in the Women’s Golf League.
She was an enthusiastic reader and book club member, attending lectures, workshops and cultural events into her 90s.
She also enjoyed bridge, tai chi and genealogy.
She and her husband of 67 years, Dr. Burton H. Singer, a dentist, grew up on the same street in Buffalo. He died in 2012.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Singer Williamson and Ellen Singer Smith; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mesnekoff Funeral Home, 8630 Transit Road, East Amherst.
