Shooting guard Nana Akenten, a transfer from Nebraska, is planning to visit the University at Buffalo on Monday, according to Prep Hoops Illinois.
Akenten, a 6-foot-6-inch guard, averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds and 12.9 minutes per game in 28 games this season. He was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules in early March and did not play the final six games. Now former Nebraska coach Tim Miles said at the time that he could not comment on the reason for the suspension.
“You really can’t get into it more than that other than: I wouldn’t have done it unless it was the right thing to do, and hopefully it can be a learning experience for Nana,” Miles told reporters.
At Bolingbrook High in Illinois, he finished seventh in voting for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois. He was named first-team Class 4A all-state by the Associated Press and was named second-team all-state in all classes by the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times. He averaged 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds as Bolingbrook finished third in 4A in the state and went 30-2.
