All three local broadcast stations earn Murrow awards

The news departments at the three local network affiliates are all basking in the glow of regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence.

Channel 2 earned three awards, including one for overall excellence for the third year in a row. It also won in the multimedia category for its website and digital work and for a news documentary called “Seeking a Confession.” It was reported by Steve Brown, with Dave Harrington as the photographer.

Channel 4's Luke Moretti earned an award for feature reporting for “Norm Paolini: The Man and the Mission.” Chief photographer Mike Mombrea also was honored for shooting and editing the story.

WKBW-TV’s (Channel 7) Charlie Specht won for investigative reporting for his reports on the scandal in the Buffalo Diocese, titled “Fall from Grace: When Priests Prey and Bishops Betray.” Chief photographer Jeff Wick also was honored for his work on the reports.
