Fire destroys two houses in Cheektowaga

The cause of a fire that destroyed two houses in Cheektowaga Monday evening is still under investigation.

A 911 call came in about 7:34 p.m. about a fire on Long Avenue. Firefighters found the vacant house at 44 Long Ave. engulfed in flames when they arrived, according to Cheektowaga Police. The fire spread to 38 Long Ave., which was occupied. The residents left the home when they saw the fire.

Both houses were destroyed, as well as a garage on Schoedel Avenue. The fire also caused damage to the siding at 46 Long Ave.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which closed a section of Genesee Street for a time and drew mutual aid from numerous departments.
