Teen sentenced to jail for using OfferUp app to commit robbery

A Buffalo teen used the popular online classifieds app, OfferUp, to rob a youth in Kenmore of jeans and sneakers.

Jose Michel, 19, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery after he offered to buy the jeans and sneakers from a juvenile victim in Kenmore, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. When he and co-defendant Jerwan Stone III, 21, met the victim, Stone grabbed and punched him and stole the items.

Michel pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted robbery. He was sentenced Friday to 15 days in jail followed by five years of probation, District Attorney John J. Flynn announced. While on probation, he must do 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology.

Stone pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted robbery and faces up to four years in prison.
