Niagara Falls Episcopal parish sets Good Friday psalm marathon

A church in Niagara Falls will mark Good Friday with its third psalm-reading marathon.

Rev. Robert Duerr of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 616 Cayuga Drive, said the complete Book of Psalms — all 150 of them — will be read aloud, starting at noon.

Based on past experience, this takes about 4½ hours, Duerr said. He alternates verses with people in the pews, who are invited to come and go throughout the afternoon. Last year, about five people stayed for the entire time.

"As far as I am aware, there is no such recitation of this type anywhere else," Duerr said. "It's been a very profound experience every time, because of the emotions in the psalms."
