Name: Mimi Harris Steadman, 53.
Who she is: Vice president for academic affairs at D'Youville College since September 2017. Previously, she was associate vice president for institutional effectiveness at Daemen College. A native of Logan, W. Va., she earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of California, Berkeley, a master's degree from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor's from Cornell University. She and her husband, Erich, live in Amherst and have three grown children, ages 18, 24 and 27.
What she's wearing: Black-and-white stretch knit dress from Maggy London she bought online; shawl given to her by scholars visiting from Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, a D'Youville partner; necklace from a J.Crew outlet store; tall boots she's had for years; Skagen watch from TJMaxx; silver earrings; red Kate Spade bag from Marshalls, and a bracelet with three buffalo charms – a gift from her former team of three at Daemen College.
Signature piece: "Scarves in general, especially in winter. You can be warm and colorful," she said. She also always wears something red, such as a purse or sweater, because it's the color of D'Youville College.
Fashion statement: "I like to wear dresses because it only requires making one decision, and they usually don't have to be ironed," she said.
Last purchase: The watch she's wearing. At meetings, if she wants to check the time, she prefers to peek at a watch rather than look at her phone.
In the market for: Nothing right now. She'll think about it after D'Youville's graduation on May 19.
