Here are some early reactions on social media to Phil Housley being fired Sunday by the Buffalo Sabres:
Guess two seasons is now the average life span for a new head coach lol Boughner and Housley both fired today.

Relieved is the better word honestly. I just think Housley was in over his head from day one. He lost me alot this season but especially whenever one of our farm team kids produced when they got called up they either got scratched the next game or thrown on the 4th line.

You know they'll go Taylor, they already wasted their time by NOT firing Housley before the season ended and will have no chance at a guy like JQ, not even a chance to talk to the dude... and THIS is what happens when you slow roll things...and this is why you may lose Skinner

Man no disrespect to his days as a sabres player but so glad they fired Phil housley. Go all in on at least tryn to get coach Q

The timing of the Housley firing is interesting. If Botterill thought Taylor would become the next coach, there’s no rush to do it today. Why not announce tomorrow when scheduled to speak with the media....unless you’re trying to urgently pursue bigger fish. 🤔🧐#sabres

I've got it, the decision to fire Housley was made long ago but since ownership is very passive they kicked the can down the road and said they'll let Phil go after Justin Timberlake's concert, Phil has 🎟️ and we don't want to be awkward. The concert kept getting postponed lol

it says a lot about the current state of the sabres (and pegulas) that firing housley was something that absolutely had to be done and it's still kind of a surprise when they actually do it
