Food Truck Tuesdays, other Larkin Square summer events announced

It's going to be another busy summer at Larkin Square with the eighth summer season featuring the return of two popular series – Food Truck Tuesdays and Live at Larkin – plus two block parties and special holiday events.

Food Truck Tuesday returns on April 23 with 10 new food trucks making their debut among the rotating list of nearly 50 participating trucks from the Buffalo and Rochester areas. Music for the opening of FTT is by Funktional Flow.

Live at Larkin, the free 12-week music series, opens June 5 with Vinnie DeRosa's VitaminD Dance Party. The series also includes an appearance by the "crown prince of zydeco," CJ Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, who will be here for "Nola Night" on July 10; the return of the Blues 4 Vets with the Buffalo Blues Benefit Band, June 19; '80s party band Nerds Gone Wild, Aug. 21 and Brian Higgins & the Exchange St. Band, Aug. 28.

Larkin Square will host a block party from noon to 6 p.m. June 1 with more than 40 vendors, plus music, food trucks and alpacas found throughout a market on Seneca Street, which will be closed off from Hagerman to Hydraulic streets. Music is by the Tins and Witty Tarbox. A second block party will take place on Sept. 28.

Later in the year, look for the holiday events "Truck or Treat" on Oct. 25 and KeyBank Holiday Live at Larkin on Dec. 6. Each will have local entertainers including musicians, dancers, performers and DJs.

There will be some parking changes for the summer as construction is expected to start in June on new development in Larkinville. The gravel lot on Hydraulic Street will open at the start of Food Truck Tuesday season, with additional parking in the Van Rensselaer Street ramp and surface lots along Exchange Street. New this year is free parking in the ramp for Live at Larkin concerts.
