Welland Canal to open for season March 22

The Welland Canal is counting on an earlier start this year.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. said the canal's navigation season will begin March 22, seven days earlier than last year.

The earliest-ever opening date for the season is March 20, a record that was tied in 2017.
