Sheriff's deputies seek tractor-trailer involved in hit-and-run crash

Erie County sheriff's deputies say they are seeking the public's help in identifying a tractor-trailer involved in a hit-and-run collision that occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Transit Road and Clinton Street in Elma.

According to deputies, the truck was traveling north on Transit Road at around 11 a.m. when witnesses observed it making a right turn onto Clinton; while making the turn, the truck veered into the left lane of Transit and struck a northbound vehicle. The truck never stopped and was then observed traveling east on Clinton, deputies said.

The tractor-trailer is described by deputies as having "a blue or purple-ish cab" with a full-length, open-box aluminum trailer with a canvas cover. Deputies say that the trailer may have damage to the left side of the box and that witnesses stated they observed the tractor-trailer dragging something after the collision.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the truck sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from an area treatment center.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to call the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at 858-2903.
