Traffic stop leads to drug charge in Chautauqua County

A Chautauqua County man who was pulled over for speeding Tuesday on Interstate 86 in Kennedy was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and a public health law violation, according to State Police.

Troopers said that when they pulled over 37-year-old Joseph Washburn, of Gerry, he was allegedly found in possession of suboxone strips and a fentanyl patch.

The public health law violation alleges that Washburn possessed a controlled substance outside of the original container in which it was dispensed.

Following Washburn's arrest, he was released with appearance tickets and scheduled to return to Poland Town Court at a later date.
