Pedestrian struck by snowplow suffers serious injuries

A pedestrian was hospitalized after he was struck at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday by a private snowplow while walking in the westbound traffic lane of Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Hanover, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The pedestrian, identified only as a 52-year-old Dunkirk man, was taken to nearby Lake Shore Health Care Center with what deputies described as serious injuries.

Officers identified the snowplow driver as Joshua S. Blum, 32, of Dunkirk. He was not injured.

An investigation is continuing, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
