State reopens Skyway in Buffalo as heavy winds subside

The state has reopened the Skyway, as the worst of the windstorm that lashed the region Sunday and early Monday has subsided.

The state Department of Transportation announced shortly after 12:15 p.m. that the Skyway portion of Route 5 between Interstate 190 and Route 179 was open to traffic.

Officials closed the Skyway on Sunday afternoon to all traffic in anticipation of the heavy winds.
