Niagara Falls, Dunkirk log highest wind gusts in WNY; Buffalo's was 69 mph

The wind gusts at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport didn't break the top 10 list for strongest wind gusts on record.

But the 69 mph gust recorded at 3:17 p.m. was plenty strong enough to place among Western New York's strongest on Sunday and Monday, according to data from the National Weather Service.

The Niagara Falls International Airport and Dunkirk Lighthouse clocked winds of 74 mph, Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning, respectively.

The storm system, which tracked from the Plains into Michigan and then up through Canada over the weekend, raked parts of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New England as well as upstate New York.
