A Town of Tonawanda Republican Committee official is challenging Democratic Supervisor Joseph Emminger's bid for a second term.
Executive Vice Chair Chuck Sankey, a utility worker, unsuccessfully ran for Town Board in 2017. Emminger served 10 years as a Town Board member before getting elected supervisor in 2015.
Democrats hold every Town Board seat. Term limits bar Councilman Daniel Crangle from running for the post he's held since 2003. Town Democrats on Saturday endorsed former Deputy County Clerk Carl Szarek for that seat; the GOP endorsed Skip Kowal, an assistant restaurant manager.
Town Justice J. Mark Gruber, who recently switched from Republican to Democrat, received his new party's backing for re-election.
Republicans endorsed attorney Michelle Maccagnano for town justice but have not nominated a challenger for Democratic Town Clerk Marguerite Greco.
