A man who claimed to be conducting a survey for Councilman Bill Kennedy apparently stole a purse from an 89-year-old woman Saturday afternoon, Niagara Falls Police reported.
The suspect, described as in his 20s with several missing teeth, arrived at the woman’s 30th Street home around 3 p.m. and asked to speak to her about the possible opening “a marijuana selling site” on Pine Avenue.
While they talked in the kitchen, the doorbell rang, but when the woman answered, no one was there. After the man left, she noticed that her purse, which had been hanging on her kitchen chair, was missing.
Shortly afterward, her bank called to report $1,000 had been withdrawn from her debit account at an ATM machine. An investigation is continuing.
