Amherst Police arrest man suspected of stealing money from coin laundries

A Williamsville man suspected of stealing money from coin laundries was arraigned Saturday on multiple charges before Amherst Town Justice Kara Buscaglia, Amherst Police reported.

Officers arrested Raimon L. Hughes, 35, of Hirschfield Drive, after stopping him for traffic violations at 6 a.m. at Main and Evans streets.

He is accused of breaking into vending machines and coin-operated washing machines during the past two months at Top Shelf Laundromat on Maple Road, Ed’s Wash World on Eggert Road and 24/7 Laundry and Coin Operated Laundromat on Sheridan Drive, police said.

Hughes was charged with several counts of petit larceny, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal mischief, aggravated unlicensed driving and operating a vehicle with suspended registration. He was remanded to Erie County Holding Center in lieu of bail.
