William S. Carroll, chairman of the Niagara Falls Republican Committee, said Friday that his committee will not endorse Democrat Robert M. Restaino for mayor.
Carroll previously expressed interest in Restaino, but he said Friday that Restaino, who was endorsed by the Conservative and Independence parties, has not sought permission to enter a GOP primary.
"The only person we would endorse is Glenn (Choolokian)," Carroll said.
Choolokian, a former Democratic city councilman who reaffiliated as a Republican, has not yet met with the committee. He announced his mayoral candidacy Feb. 6.
The GOP committee endorsed Councilman Kenneth M. Tompkins for re-election, but did not choose between Candace Corsaro and Michael S. Gawel for the other open Council seat, setting up a potential primary involving the three candidates.
