SUNY Erie Community College has big plans for a 49-acre section of green space on the school's North Campus in Amherst.
They envision several buildings hosting apartments, a hotel, restaurants, a brewery or wine bar and an innovation hub for student entrepreneurs.
The News reported on the proposal earlier this week, and interviewed Amherst Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa for the piece.
Kulpa said he welcomes investment on the campus at Main Street and Youngs Road but awaits further details.
After a phone interview, however, Kulpa texted a tongue-in-cheek, follow-up comment to a reporter:
"I forgot to mention Amazon ... they can locate their HQ near SUNY Erie."
Kulpa's suggestion came the same week the Niagara County Legislature voted unanimously to invite Amazon there, after the digital and shipping behemoth backed out of a plan to locate a second headquarters in New York City.
If Amazon chooses either Western New York site, we'll be sure to let you know.
