Niagara County issues invite to Amazon for headquarters

Since Amazon doesn't want to build a second corporate headquarters in New York City, perhaps a field in Niagara County will do.

The Niagara County Legislature voted unanimously Tuesday night to invite Amazon to the county.

It has two state-certified shovel-ready development sites "which are large enough to accommodate a corporate campus of almost any size," the resolution said. Both are farm fields on Lockport Road, one in Cambria, the other in the Town of Niagara.

"We'd love to get them here. Are you kidding me? That would be a gift from heaven," Legislature Chairman W. Keith McNall said Wednesday.

Amazon rejected a joint Buffalo-Rochester bid in January 2018. Last week, it canceled plans to bring its 25,000-job office complex to Queens despite a $3 billion incentive package.
