A Niagara Falls man rescued by firefighters was in stable condition Tuesday morning in the intensive care unit at Erie County Medical Center.
Firefighters on Monday night carried the 44-year-old man out of the third-floor unit of an apartment building at 930 Niagara Ave., according to the department and the firefighters' union.
The blaze in the three-story building, between Main and 10th streets, was reported at 7:13 p.m., according to the department.
Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment where the man was found, said Michael Winker, chief of fire prevention for the department.
The fire had burned itself out by the time firefighters arrived, but the blaze had created smoke inside the dwelling, Winker said.
The cause is under investigation. Damage to the building was estimated at $10,000.
