Niagara Falls man assaulted after coming back to intervene in fight

A man told Niagara Falls Police he was assaulted early Saturday outside Players Sports Bar at Fourth and Niagara streets when he attempted to break up a fight outside the establishment.

Police found the victim, a 59-year-old Buffalo Avenue resident, slumped over a large planter outside the bar about 2:30 a.m., complaining of shoulder pain.

He said he left the bar to ride home on his bicycle, but returned when he saw the fight. He told police two men standing nearby began to slap him, then one of them picked him up and slammed him to the ground.

The victim, who said he lost his cellphone in the incident, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
