The brackets are done and ECIC I division champion Williamsville North and ECIC III division champion Amherst are among the teams to earn No. 1 seeds for the Section VI boys basketball tournament.
The tournament begins for a handful a teams Tuesday with play-in games. Championship week at Buffalo State and Jamestown Community College begin Feb. 25 with sectional semifinals.
North is the top seed in Class AA, while three-time defending champion Niagara Falls is the No. 2 seed. Both met last year in the Section VI final.
Amherst (17-3) won a coin flip with Niagara Frontier League champion Lewiston-Porter to secure the No. 1 seed in Class A-2. The Tigers will face West Seneca East in the quarterfinals. The two split their regular-season meetings.
Lew-Port didn’t exactly earn a reward either from the coin flip as the Lancers draw No. 7 seed Health Sciences. Health Sciences won the last two Section VI Class B championships en route to state final fours. The Falcons were moved into Class A-2 by the competition committee prior to the season.
While Olean is 20-0, it’s not the top seed in Class B-1. Medina of the Niagara-Orleans League is No. 1 in the bracket, while Lackawanna – based on a tiebreaker (total league wins) is No. 2 followed by Olean.
Other top seeds are Sweet Home (Class A-1), Allegany/Limestone (B-2), Middle Early College (C-1), Ellicottville (C-2) and Franklinville (Class D).
