A Niagara Falls man wound up getting arrested when he went to retrieve his stolen car in the Town of Porter last week.
Niagara County sheriff's deputies said the car was driven into a ditch at Creek and Blairville roads around 4 p.m. Wednesday, but everyone in the vehicle had fled by the time officers arrived. After determining that it was stolen, deputies contacted the registered owner, who agreed to come get it.
When Sonny E. Zimmerman, 39, of Pierce Avenue, arrived, officers checked the status of his driver's license and discovered it had been suspended for failure to answer a summons from the City of North Tonawanda. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation. The car was released to a passenger who had accompanied Zimmerman.
