Mike Harrington's NHL Power Rankings

Through Friday's games. Last week's rankings in parentheses.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning. Kucherov posts consecutive four-point games to crack 90 for season. (1)

2. Winnipeg Jets. Battling hard to stay in front of Preds in Central. (4)

3. Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthews gets to 100 career goals in 187th game, fastest by a Leaf since 1933. (6)

4. Calgary Flames. They'd love a couple of points from their 0-4 shootout record. (2)

5. San Jose Sharks. Kane got his wish: He's on a bona fide Cup contender. (3)

6. New York Islanders. Playoff site decision using both arenas is probably best compromise. (7)

7. Nashville Predators. Hard to believe team with that much talent can go into a 3-for-50 power play slump. (5)

8. Boston Bruins. Halak posts fourth shutout in blanking of Ducks. (10)

9. Washington Capitals. Ovechkin on league-leading 56-goal pace. (11)

10. Montreal Canadiens. Easily in playoffs, far ahead of preseason predictions. (8)

11. Pittsburgh Penguins. Crosby improves to 6-0 against McDavid. (12)

12. Vegas Golden Knights. Five straight home losses for first time. (9)

13. Columbus Blue Jackets. No chance to win Metro after home schooling by Isles. (13)

14. Carolina Hurricanes. McElhinney makes 40 saves vs. Oilers, improves to 8-1 in last nine starts. (14)

15. St. Louis Blues. All the wins now point to bad luck early in season. (18)

16. Dallas Stars. Have fallen behind Blues in Central and into West wild-card. (15)

17. Buffalo Sabres. Does Housley's "soft" blast get a response or do players go into a snit? (16)

18. Minnesota Wild. Can't blow three-goal leads at home to the Devils. Ever. (17)

Inside the NHL: With Wild looking to retool, Sabres should be eyeing Charlie Coyle

19. Philadelphia Flyers. Interesting pickup of Oilers Talbot to mentor Hart in net. (19)

20. Vancouver Canucks. Just not keeping the puck out of their net enough. (20)

21. Chicago Blackhawks. If they make playoffs, Kane should win the Hart. (23)

22. New York Rangers. Beat Bruins and Leafs just prior to stuffing of Sabres. (21)

23. Colorado Avalanche. Pulled off a stunner with win in Winnipeg. (22)

24. Florida Panthers. Running out of time for this year, but Panarin-Bobrovsky quest makes them summer team to watch. (25)

25. Arizona Coyotes. Too many injuries to overcome. (26)

26. Edmonton Oilers. If Sabres are soft, these guys are ultra-soft. (24)

27. Detroit Red Wings. A long way away, with not many good pieces. (29)

28. New Jersey Devils. Hischier's third career OT goal sinks Wild. (30)

29. Anaheim Ducks. GM Murray turfs Carlyle, becomes Coach Murray. Like that's gonna help much. (27)

30. Los Angeles Kings. It's been one ugly hockey season in SoCal. (28)

31. Ottawa Senators. Stone-Duchene sign or trade drama coming to a head this week. (31)
