Letter: Death of homeless man demonstrate poor options

The death of a homeless man, Larry, in the middle of the brutal storm in one of our communities most wealthy neighborhoods stands as a silent testimony to the great injustice of homelessness and should shame all of us.

No number of “feel good “ headlines in The Buffalo News about how it is “not easy to help the homeless” or feel-good stories about the individual acts of kindness shown to Larry by his neighbors should turn our focus away from the appalling lack of a community wide and national plan to provide adequate housing, mental health care, substance abuse treatment and basic health care to our neighbors who are most in need.
