A Lockport house was destroyed, a dog was found dead and two other dogs were presumed dead in a two-alarm fire Thursday night, according to the City of Lockport Fire Department.
The blaze at 294 Plank Road, south of Old Niagara Road, was reported at 8:52 p.m.
The homeowner had "a large amount of ammunition" stored in the home, which began to detonate as the home burned, the fire department said in a news release.
Fire officials declared the house a total loss and the homeowners sought help from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. An unspecified number of firefighters suffered minor injuries and remained on duty.
Firefighters were able to recover the body of one of the dogs, but were not able to access much of the home due to extensive damage, the department said.
