This weekend is "free fishing weekend" across New York State.
That means the state requirement for a fishing license is waived. Normal state angling laws and regulations still apply.
"This is a great opportunity to try ice fishing for the first time, or for experienced anglers to take friends ice fishing for the first time," the state Department of Environmental Conservation said.
It's one of four such weekends this year as part of the state's "New York Open for Fishing and Hunting" initiative.
The others are scheduled for June 29-30, Sept. 28 and Nov. 11.
Boost your wellness on Free #Fishing Days this weekend! Fishing is good for the mind and the body—it’s relaxing, teaches patience—and burns around 200 calories an hour!
