Dog saved from icy waters of Ellicott Creek

A man saved someone else's dog from the icy waters of Ellicott Creek on Thursday, according to a witness.

It happened at about 3:15 p.m. near the Ellicott Island Bark Park, just north of Ellicott Creek Park in the Town of Tonawanda.

Images posted to the Friends of Ellicott Island Bark Park's Facebook page show the man cradling the dog while standing in the icy creek.

"Thank God for this man that just saved this dog of another owner about 15 minutes ago," wrote Samantha Kelly, who said in her post she took the pictures from the bridge as she arrived at the park.

"The man that rescued the dog was soaked head to toe, had to go all the way in and breaking the ice on the way to save the dog," Kelly wrote.

The dog was reunited with his owner, she wrote.

The Facebook post had been shared 396 times as of about 7 a.m. Friday.
