A simulated skirmish in the woods near Old Fort Niagara is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, as the fort hosts a special day of living history.
The annual "Winter Woods Battle" is a highlight of a full day of 18th century-themed activities beginning at 10 a.m. in the state park in Youngstown.
The battlefield will be about 1.5 miles east of the fort and will be reached by hiking or snowshoeing. Members of four re-enactment groups will leave for the battlefield at 2 p.m.
Back at the fort, visitors can write with a quill pen, learn how to start a fire with a flint and steel, buy an 18th century meal and see a fur trading demonstration. Admission is $13 for adults, $9 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for kids under age 5.
