Buffalo driver charged with DWI after collision injures two

A Buffalo man was charged with driving while intoxicated and two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night following a collision at Jefferson Avenue and Laurel Street, according to a police report.

A police officer parked in a lot near the intersection witnessed the crash at about 10:15 p.m. The driver of a Buick LaCrosse, identified in the report as Thomas J. Lewis Jr., 36, struck a Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the Malibu, who complained of chest pain, and a passenger, who complained of neck and chest pain, were taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.

Police reported finding marijuana in Lewis' pocket and in his car. He refused to submit to field sobriety tests or a breathalyzer test, according to the police report.

Charges against Lewis included DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
