Fire in vacant Amherst Street building causes $10,000 damage

A fire Wednesday that started on the second floor of a vacant two-story building in the 200 block of Amherst Street, near Churchill Street, caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, according to a spokesman for Mayor Byron W. Brown.

Michael J. DeGeorge said firefighters were called to the scene at about 7 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation late Wednesday, DeGeorge said.
