University Heights is getting an all-day fried chicken and waffles specialist when Mumbles Chicken & Waffles opens.
Owner Jamarr Moody plans to open by the end of March in the former Nette’s space, 3118 Main St.
The restaurant was open in the Galleria food court last year, leaving when the lease ended, Moody said. “That area would probably have the best crowd for us,” he said of University Heights.
Opening a location on Main Street will allow Mumbles to offer a broader menu, including items it was restricted from offering in the mall. French fries, chicken wings, and sandwiches, for example.
“We’re planning on doing po’ boys, burgers and milkshakes,” Moody said. “The menu’s going to double in size.”
Mumbles breakfasts include egg varieties, waffles, and tater tot poutine. Lunch and dinners include fried chicken and waffles combinations, with waffles in red velvet, s’mores, and chocolate varieties.
In addition to the chicken tenders sold at Galleria, the University Heights spot will add chicken wings, in regular Buffalo flavors and varieties like lemon pepper and garlic parmesan.
“It’s small, but there’s room to grow in that spot,” he said. “We’re doing renovations, and there will be more space than there was,” with at least 10 seats, he said.
He’s also looking at addresses on Hertel Avenue in planning for a second location.
The spot should be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 10 a.m.-1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
