Outside review to guide Grand Island's decision on CannonDesign purchase

Grand Island is preparing to hire a consultant to assess the town's inventory of buildings and whether it makes sense to use CannonDesign's headquarters as a new town hall.

The Town Board last week directed Town Attorney Peter Godfrey to draw up a contract with Rochester-based CGR, which would conduct a review of town facilities and of how town government is structured.

Supervisor Nathan McMurray wants Grand Island to buy the headquarters from CannonDesign, which is eyeing a move off the island, to replace the 50-year-old Town Hall at 2255 Baseline Road.

If hired, CGR would complete the buildings analysis within a few weeks, McMurray said, giving the town enough data to decide on acquiring 2170 Whitehaven Road.

The town previously conducted appraisals of the Town Hall and CannonDesign properties.
