A Lackawanna man pleaded guilty Monday before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with a nonfatal shooting in 2018, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said that, on May 3, 23-year-old Decarrio Sanders shot another man with a shortened, double-barreled shotgun on Smith Street in Buffalo. The victim suffered a gunshot to his forearm, resulting in a permanent disability to the injured man's left hand.
According to the District Attorney's Office, Buffalo Police officers called to the scene of the shooting located Sanders nearby. The shotgun used in the shooting was found hidden in some brush on Smith Street, prosecutors said.
Sanders faces a maximum 25-year prison sentence when he returns to court March 21.
