Cierra Dillard scored 31 points to help the University at Buffalo women’s basketball team to a 75-66 win against Kent State on Saturday at Alumni Arena.
Summer Hemphill and Courtney Wilkins each added 16 points for the Bulls, who led 41-27 at halftime. Hemphill also had 12 rebounds for UB, which improved to 16-5 and 8-2 in the MAC, and have won eight of their last nine games.
The Bulls led by as many as 20 points early in the third quarter, and won despite shooting 38.9 percent (12 for-29) in the second half. The Bulls allowed the Golden Flashes to cut their 13-point lead in the third quarter to four with 6:55 left in the fourth.
Transition 3-pointers, Dillard said, helped spark the Golden Flashes, who went 10 for 24 on 3-pointers.
“They definitely got some lapses in our defense, where we came down and we were scrambling, and just kind of lost in the air,” Dillard said.
Ali Poole and Megan Carter led Kent State (12-9, 5-5 MAC) with 16 points each, and Alexa Golden added 15 points.
Buffalo continues its schedule at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bowling Green. Kent State plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Eastern Michigan.
