Furnace stolen, ductwork damaged at home under construction in Falls

A furnace and hot water tank were stolen overnight Thursday from a home under construction in the 1600 block of Weston Avenue, Niagara Falls Police reported.

The owner of the property, a 20th Street woman, told police that the theft occurred between 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday. She said that access to the building, which was vacant, was possible because several doors and locks were in the process of being installed or replaced.

Police said that the thieves did about $1,000 worth of damage to the ductwork in the building when they removed the furnace — valued at $5,000 — and the 50-gallon hot water tank, which was valued at $600.
