The authors of “He’s Out,” the story of convicted killer Richard Matt and his 2015 breakout from a high-security state prison, will speak and sign books at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at the new North Tonawanda History Museum, 712 Oliver St..
Matt’s daughter, Jamie Scalise, and her co-author, former Buffalo News reporter Bob DiCesare, will be there. The event is free to the public.
Former North Tonawanda Police Chief of Detectives Gabe DiBernardo and four other retired detectives whose investigation led to a 2008 murder and kidnapping conviction against Matt will also speak at the event.
Matt was shot and killed after eluding capture for several weeks. David Sweat, a fellow prisoner who tunneled to freedom with Matt, was recaptured and sent back to prison. Their escapades were dramatized on "Escape at Dannemora," a recent eight-part television series on the Showtime cable network.
