Woman charged with trying to cash $500,000 stolen check

A Niagara Falls woman was charged Wednesday morning with trying to open a bank account with a stolen check made out for $500,000, according to a police report.

Verenda K. Price, 40, of Ontario Avenue, was arrested at about 9:30 a.m. at the Northwest Bank branch, 805 Main St.

The check had been reported stolen from Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. The check was taken Sunday and reported to police when the theft became known on Tuesday, according to the report.

Price was charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument, second-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
