Wohleben seeks comeback as Lockport mayor

City of Lockport voters never had a chance to pass judgment on David R. Wohleben's five months as mayor in 2018, but they will in 2019.

Wohleben, who returned to his 4th Ward alderman seat on Jan. 1, announced Thursday he is running for the Republican nomination for a full four-year term as mayor.

The Niagara County GOP rejected Wohleben as its mayoral candidate last fall, instead nominating County Legislature Chairman W. Keith McNall, who lost to Democrat Michelle M. Roman in an election for a one-year unexpired term.

Wohleben, 56, became mayor in August after Anne E. McCaffrey resigned to become CEO of Eastern Niagara Hospital.
