A Canadian distributor of laboratory and life sciences products will invest $1 million and create 15 new jobs over five years as it sets up its first U.S. site in Wheatfield.
FroggaBio will lease 5,000 square feet of space at the Woodlands Corporate Center at 3790 Commerce Court, after working with Invest Buffalo Niagara to finalize its plans. The facility is managed by Sinatra & Co. Real Estate.
The Toronto-based company distributes lab products, supply instruments, reagents and disposables, serving academic and industrial research institutes, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals. It's the exclusive provider for several manufacturers in biological, chemical and diagnostic fields.
“We are very excited to take this big step in our company’s evolution – and to do so in the Buffalo Niagara region,” said Moshe Kapelnikov, FroggaBio's managing director. “The region’s strategic location, growing life sciences cluster and the welcoming assistance we received were all critical to this decision.”
The new facility took five years to bring to fruition, after the company's leadership originally began discussions with IBN – formerly Buffalo Niagara Enterprise – in 2013. The company began to research what steps would be necessary to establish a U.S. foothold and even incorporate in the United States but put off further action until last year.
“The life sciences sector continues to be a key driver of our economy and an area on which we continue to focus,” said Alan Rosenhoch, Invest Buffalo Niagara's director of domestic business development. “We are thrilled for FroggaBio to join the ranks of Buffalo Niagara’s many life sciences companies – an expansion five years in the making.”
