The search has begun for Buffalo's interim comptroller

The Buffalo Common Council has started looking for an interim comptroller.

Interested residents must submit in person a current resume and letter requesting the appointment by Feb. 7 to the City Clerk's Office

Mark J.F. Schroeder, a former Erie County legislator and Assembly member, had served as the comptroller since January 2012. Schroeder left the position to become commissioner of the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Council has 90 days from Schroeder's resignation to appoint an interim replacement to complete his term, which expires Dec. 31. The only legal requirements are that the person be a city resident for at least a year and be of the same political party.

The Clerk's Office is located in City Hall, Room 1308.
