The Section VI girls ice hockey tournament scheduled to begin Tuesday has been moved to next week because of the weather.
The quarterfinals have been moved to Monday with games at RiverWorks, Holiday and HarborCenter, with the semifinals on Tuesday and the final on Wednesday.
The quick turnaround was necessary because the New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament begins Feb. 8 with the semifinals at HarborCenter. A Western New York team playing in the sectional quarterfinals would need to win five games in six days to win the state title. Top-seeded Frontier/Orchard Park/Lake Shore has a bye in the Section VI tournament but would need to win four games in five days.
Here is the revised schedule:
Monday, Feb. 4 – Section VI Quarterfinals
4:30 p.m. - RiverWorks – 7-Niagara County vs. 2-Williamsville
5 p.m. – Holiday – 6-Kenmore/Grand Island vs. 3-Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew
6 p.m. – HarborCenter – 5-West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden vs. 4-Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence
Tuesday, Feb. 5 – Section VI Semifinals
3 p.m. – Hamburg Nike – Lowest seed vs. 1-Frontier/Orchard Park/Lake Shore
4:30 p.m. – Northtown Center – 3rd seed vs. 2nd seed
Wednesday, Feb. 6 – Section VI Championship
4:30 p.m. – Northtown Center – Semifinal winners
