Letter: Catching red light runners would increase road safety

This is in response to the recent letter writer’s comment concerning ticketing red light runners instead of raising parking rates. After moving to New York six years ago, I settled in Amherst. I became oriented to the area using Maple, Sheridan and Niagara Falls Boulevard. Two things immediately stuck out like a sore thumb. One, the large percentage of red light runners. I was stunned by the blatant “normalcy” of this infraction. Second is the high percentage of vehicles stopping on or

the crosswalk.

I agree with the letter writer. Enforcement would not only provide a steady revenue, it would also increase public safety.
