Explore winter's wild side at Reinstein's 'Wonderland in the Woods'

Explore winter during an afternoon of free demonstrations on ice fishing, compass navigation, wildlife rehabilitation and survival hiking Feb. 9 at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve.

Winter Wonderland in the Woods, set for noon to 4 p.m. will offer snowshoe and cross-country ski presentations as well as techniques of frozen lake rescue demonstrated by forest rangers. The Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team plan to test navigation skills with out the use of GPS.

Children can test their skills at a snowball target toss, bird-spotting challenge trail and snowflake investigation station. Indoor crafts, prizes, costumed characters and exhibits are also planned.

A warmup area located inside the education center will offer hot drinks and snacks.
