WASHINGTON – The committee charged with electing more Democrats to the House announced Monday the first round of Republicans it will target for defeat in 2020 – and Rep. Chris Collins of Clarence is on the list.
Collins remains vulnerable because he is under indictment on federal insider trading charges, which he denies. Last November, Collins won another term by only 1,087 votes over Democrat Nathan McMurray, the Grand Island town supervisor, who has indicated interest in running again.
"Despite both being indicted for felonies, Republicans continue to proudly welcome Congressmen Chris Collins and Duncan Hunter (of California) to their cocktail parties," the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said in a strategy memo.
Three other New York Republicans – Reps. John Katko of Camillus, and Pete King and Lee Zeldin of Long Island – also appear on the DCCC's target list.
Rep. Tom Reed, a Corning Republican who has won re-election handily in recent years, is not on the Democratic target list.
