An apartment building underwent an emergency demolition and a barn was declared a total loss – though all the animals were saved – after a pair of fires over the weekend in Wyoming County.
Firefighters responded at 8:45 a.m. Saturday to a blaze in a four-unit building at 8 East St. in Gainesville, according to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services.
The cause of fire, which appeared to have started in the lower front apartment, was under investigation. The Red Cross was called to assist five tenants.
A fire in a barn at 4096 E. Main Road in Attica, reported at 2:08 p.m. Saturday, was sparked by a heat lamp, county officials said. Damage was estimated at $70,000.
