As banks try to grab more deposit market share and attract more business clients, they are scooping up experienced personnel from competitors and giving them new roles. Big players in the region are also hiring and promoting new people to important roles, eager to keep their edge over their competitors. Here is a look at one up-and-comer at area banks; click here to see more.
Adam M. Desmond has served as Tompkins Bank of Castile's regional market executive since 2017, before the bank even had a branch here.
Now the bank finally has its first area branch, in Amherst. And Desmond has assembled a team to drive the Batavia-based bank's expansion plans in the region.
Desmond, a Grand Island resident, used to work at First Niagara Bank and KeyBank, so he knows the competition. His task is to lead Tompkins Bank of Castile's efforts to build up its presence in a region where M&T Bank and KeyBank dominate deposit market share.
"I'm really looking forward to 2019," Desmond said. "I think there's a lot out there. Even in the competitive marketplace that we're in, I just think it's good for the area. The more banks, the more competition, the more capital, all those things are going to help the area continuously grow and reap benefits.
