Bandits rout Black Wolves in Connecticut

After giving up 18 goals in a loss at Rochester the night before, the Buffalo Bandits shut the door on the New England Black Wolves Sunday, in a 15-5 rout before 5,096 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Corey Small scored four goals, Thomas Hoggarth and Chase Fraser had three each and Dhane Smith recorded nine assists in the victory, Buffalo’s fifth in seven games. New England is 3-2. A three-game Black Wolves win streak ended with the loss

Shawn Evans of the Bandits, the National Lacrosse League leader in points and assists, had no goals but picked up six assists giving him 36 for the season and 48 points. Smith also had two goals, which with his nine assists left him with 34 points.

Ian McKay had a pair of goals and an assist and Steven Priolo had a goal and an assist for the Bandits.

The game was tied before goals by Small, Hoggarth and Fraser in succession got Buffalo into the lead to stay, 4-1. The Bandits blew out to a 12-2 lead at the half and took a 13-3 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Bandits cashed in on four of their eight power plays while the Black Wolves were 2 for 4.

Only four New England players scored. Callum Crawford had three of the tallies for the Balck Wolves. Colton Watkinson and JP Kealey had single tallies.

Evans came to the Bandits from New England in a trade that sent Crawford to the Black Wolves.

Matt Vinc of the Bandits made 39 saves. Doug Jamieson made 19 saves in 28:28 for New England. Aled Buque took over and stopped 20 in his 31:32 of playing time.

Priolo and Andrew Suitor received 5-minute fighting majors in the fourth quarter.

New England came into the game allowing only 12.5 points a game, best in the NLL.

The Bandits will be home to the Colorado Mammoth at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at KeyBank Center in their next game. Colorado (1-4) lost at Vancouver, 11-10, on Sunday.
